My bad... I just realized this -WAS- posted to the PHP-DB list, and not PHP-General...
So yes... These people are ninjas at solving database problems with PHP. I have yet to post a request for help to them, but just following the list is quite educational. -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Loff [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, October 01, 2001 10:11 PM To: 'Radith'; '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [PHP-DB] Newbie But Urgent ASP list members will tell you ASP is better/easier for this, PHP list members will tell you PHP is better/easier for this. You're asking a pretty loaded question... I, personally, believe that PHP is much better/easier, but I learned PHP coming from a C/C++ background.. If you have done programming in Visual Basic or VBScript before, perhaps ASP would be better for you. I can objectively say, though, that PHP help/support on the internet seems much better than ASP support... The PHP community (as you can see from following this list) is very active in helping each other. There are some great examples of PHP/MySQL code on the web, and if you run into difficulty, see the PHP-DB list. They're ninjas at fixing database problems. -----Original Message----- From: Radith [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, October 01, 2001 9:59 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [PHP-DB] Newbie But Urgent HELLO, I am finished working with the html and css levels and want to take my design to the next level. I realize that JS is getting outdated and many new technologies have started popping up. I do want a database driven site. I am running Windows and have both the 98 and 2000 versions. There's one main thing i want to accomplish w/ either php or asp: I want a system where users can join our site by means of filling out a form and submitting it, which generates the username and password to be placed into a databse (mayb other info.). Then the next time they visit the site they can login via the database. Now i know this is possible with both php and asp, but which is easier. Also i have a plan of using php and mysql, and learning these by means of this book: PHP and MySQL Web Development. (ISBN: 0672317842) Although 1 book may cover both technologies, i am simply looking for simplicity, which technology will be easier to accomplish this task.
