mysqldump is a separate program (it runs outside of the mysql shell). I noticed you have ; at the end and perhaps you are trying to run it inside MySQL client.
The ; by itself is not a problem for the OS shell (bash or whatever) but you don't need it unless you are running multiple commands on the same line. Other than that it looks correct - what is the error?
