I have PHP as a module for Apache. Sometimes, when I load a script, the browser start to work hard (and never ends). When I see to my process list, I can see that Apache have about a 95% of CPU. Also, you can't kill Apache, so a reboot is required ALWAYS. I haven't identified the piece of code that makes it.
