Please try the latest release candidate:
http://www.php.net/~andi/php-4.0.6RC2.tar.gz
If it doesn't work either, configure it with --enable-debug and try to start Apache
withing gdb.

Apache will NOT start when compiled with PHP404sp1.
Tested with serveral combinations of Apache 1.3.12, 1.3.17, PHP 4.0.2, PHP 4.0.3sp1,
PHP 4.0.4sp1, and with (and without) Openlink, versions 3.2 and 4.0.
Running on a Cobalt RAQ2 (Cobalt Linux release 4.0 (Fargo)
Kernel 2.0.34 on a mips)
No warnings or errors shown during make/configure etc.
SUMMARY : PHP, version 404sp1 only, is causing Apache not to start (Haven't tested
with 404, or with CVS).
REASON: unknown. -sigh-
1. Normal promts still showing (says 'Starting HTTPd' ...).
2. Nothing logged by Apache (etc/httpd/logs)
3. 'ps ax' reaveals NO httpd processes running
