I think we're all well aware of this fact.  I definitely am.  I can also 
understand their reasons - updating to the last version is not suitable for 
everyone.

Being aware or even sensitive to this point has very little to do with the 
specific issue at hand (dirname()).  We do try to minimize 
incompatibilities in released, documented code, but sometimes they do 
occur.  You'd find that's the case with virtually any large scale piece of 
software, including commercial software.

I know, I'm just pointing out that I'm hearing that mostly from you and 
nobody else :)

I can assure you that I'm not in 'ignore mlemos' mode, and you would have 
gotten a very similar answer (well, except for the 'Manuel,' in the 
beginning) if you were somebody else.  You're more than welcome to send us 
what you think is constructive criticism.
