Hey, I'd like to get more people to play around with the Zend Engine 2. I think the only way of getting this done is by posting a package on www.php.net. I'm not sure if we should call it alpha or preview (it's both) but I don't think the name matters too much as long as we get people to try it. It'll also give us a reality check about how many people's scripts break by the new object model.
It'd definitely help in pushing things forward. I know lots of people are waiting for the scripting engine improvements and I wouldn't want things to linger too much. I think if we can get enough people to play around with it we could have a final version of the Zend Engine 2 in Q2 2002.
