To me the existing wording is fine, solution 3 sounds good too to make it 
clearer.

First of all I don't see *how* we could have a MUST: many (most?) 
containers would be immediately incompatible.

Could you explain a case where it would matter? I think it would be better 
if we discussed of a concrete problem.
