If the digest is mailed in the correct format, programs like Forte Agent and Pegasus can split the digest into its seperate messages. Then you can reply to a message inside the digest like it was a normal message.
It's kinda neat, but not all (read: few) lists support this, so the ones that don't can be a real pain to go through ... Haven't used digests for lists in 5 years though ...
