When I include <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> in my html code, I get a parse error. The version is 4.1.2; phpinfo() reports that XML support is turned on. Can anyone help with this?

Do you have short tags disabled in you php.ini? If not, try turning it off, and restarting your web server.
