[PHP] memory error

Hello. I've developed a script to use in shell to resize several images, 
but, when i try to run it, i keep receiving this error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to 
allocate 2048 bytes)

how can i solve it ?
PHP: 5.0.3
php.ini settings:
max_execution_time = 300
max_input_time = 60
memory_limit = 8M
by the way, is there any function that allows me to flush the memory ??
