here is my GD report from PHPInfo()
gd
GD Support enabled
GD Version 1.6.2 or higher
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with TTF library
GIF Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
I think you don't have JPG enabled.
As for resizing images yes, you can do that, i wrote bunch of scripts that
does that for you.
Whenever you need them mail me although they will be on my page soon.
