[PHP] mcrypt

Is it possible to set the key length for mcrypt with the cipher
Blowfish? Specifically to lets say 128 bits? 
mcrypt_get_key_size
returns int but is it bytes bits?

Maybe I could do with openssl?

Ideas and thoughts very welcome.
