You have to escape the brackets with backslashes, so that the JS
really interprets it as an element ID - not an array. Something like
this might work:

<input name="search[min_price]" id="search[min_price]">
(JS)
var min_price= document.getElementById('search\[min_price\]').value ;
[/snip]
