I still don't think a progress meter for browsers is something that belongs in PHP in any way, shape, or form. Please note my other much longer post on useful server-side statistical info about file uploads, however. There *IS* a progress meter on some browsers down in the status bar, or in other places, which, apparently, the average user is too clueless to notice consciously. Though I have noted that semi-experienced users "know" it is there subconsciously if you ask them the right questions about how far along the upload is.
