I have apache compiled and working %100. I have www.mydomain.com when I visit thie domain apache loads index.html for my by default - wo my browser displays www.mydomain.com - but the page viewed is www.mydomain.com/index.html I updated index.html (did not touch any apache configuration) added some text etc Now when I visit www.mydomain.com I get page not found however if I visit www.mydomain.com/index.html I get the updated page.
