I would tend to make this with common html using named anchors. Just enclose every button with a an anchor and define its name numbering it with php. Then simply make sure that when the button is pressed that number is appended to the url so it will look like yourdocument.php?yourdata=blah#5 making the browser jump to the anchor named "5".
