So you are apparently using the apxs method (--with-apxs). Fine.

Yes.

These are PHP's "interface" files to Apache.

You only have to rebuild your Apache if you can't use --with-apxs on
PHP's configure command line. If you have an "apxs" program (from your
current Apache install), you don't have to re-install Apache. Just use
--with-apxs, and if you get an error saying that the apxs program could
not be found, use --with-apxs=/path/to/your/apxs.

Better hope you can use apxs (it's a lot easier to install, and if you
want to upgrade either PHP or Apache, you have to recompile only one of
them).
