I've read that search engines don't like meta refresh tags. Supposedly a lot
of porn sites used to use refresh tags to gain search engine ratings.
Basically the index page is full of text making it very search engine
friendly but it has a refresh of 1 second so it is instantly refreshed to
the main home page which is mainly, "un-search engine friendly", graphic
content. Consequently using them, particularly with a short refresh time can
lead to penalties in a search.

all the best,
Fergal
