Many mail packages have different spam ratings/scores- but in general the fact that it has html in the message will increase the spam score quite a bit. Other things are no subject, attachments of certain types, etc. The spam ratings look at things like the message body (html or plain text) whether the message is being sent To: and the address of the recipient is in the To: (as opposed to another address and the CC: or BCC: fields are populated. Some of the popular packages that are used for the spam scores are: Postfix (Mail Delivery), Amavis (Mail Scanner), SpamAssassin (Spam Identifier), as well as built in tools for Outlook and other mail clients or spam software packages on the desktop. If Yahoo is reporting it and the recipients are using the Yahoo Web mail to read the messages then you need to start with this site: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/abuse/index.html is the starting point specifically for Yahoo Spam policy, etc.
Other issues are how the mail server is set up- is there a reverse DNS entry on it, having a mail server with a dynamic IP address, etc. MSN/Hotmail (Microsoft), maybe Yahoo and AOL and some others are also using or requiring either both SPF and or DomainKeys to try and prove the validity of messages. Read over the info in this link: http://www.mailtraq.com/708/ Finally if the server subscribes to any of the RBL lists, then again you could be rejected if you are listed there or your IP range is listed. All it takes is a report or 2 of spam to get listed and banned.
