To have Git repository maintained and understandable as much as possible, the "maint" and "old_auth" branches have been removed since they were only topic, temporary placeholders with all changes already applied to the master branch and also with ~10 commits work done on them. I'll recheck the "next" branch what should be added to master from there. The work done on it definitely looks ok to me and shouldn't be neglected.
