Devshed and dreamincode.net are very helpful

At the moment I'm primarily focused on mysql and learning statistical
analysis - building sports datbases to analyze data...started with mlb
pitchfx data and am now trying to figure out how to build my own 'sports
league' to track data (it's harder than it sounds, W/L stuff isn't simple if
you want to look at various variations of w/l record)

Usually when I get stuck in PHP I just hit google/swagbucks and look around
until I find what I need - most problems have already been had
