I don't think we speak about the same thing now.

What I want to do is to use highlight_string when building the manual, so
that the example
(text) will be converted to syntax colored HTML. I will not use the
highlight_string at runtime - only when building the manual. So there's no
need for PHP when viewing either phpweb or the HTML version of the manual.

But I think that the HTML manual shouldn't use colorized examples anyway
since it's used for the printed version of the manual (right?)
