I completely agree with Sara here :)
But back to the idea of branching... We can satisfy all of the above needs (even have a second build for those who want to read "HEAD" documentation) by adding branches to phpdoc, but that means changing the way the documentation in maintained, and may cause issues with the translations.... Talk amongst yourselves.....
Do you mean we shuold consider forking the manual for PHP 5? Remember that we keep on adding docs and fixing bugs for older versions. It would be a pain to maintain multiple bogus versions of the documentation, and fix the errors all around...
