This manual page is (like many others) hopelessly outdated - I'll try
to fix it soon, but if you can spare some time - you're welcome to help
translating.

The english version makes it very clear ("...
returns ...") that the replacement is not done "in place"
The german is a little vague.

Maybe its better to stay close to the english text

Actual result:

I had one support case where this leads to a hard-to-find
bug.
