Yay! Basically we need anything to make livedocs able to replace the
pregenerated php.net manuals entirely. That is the first target. Important
to keep PHP 4 compatibilty, and rely on sqlite being available for the
entities and other metadata. The search engine (Nuno's proposal to improve
indexing) is not interesting for php.net, since it is going to use yahoo
search as it is now (unless it is possible to make livedocs' search engine
better, which should not be the first focus). Of course the search engine
is vital if we aim to replace the CHM version with an easy to set up
livedocs (which is another target, but one further away :).

My proposal had nothing to do with the search engine. I still think that the
off-line tools of livedocs could use some help. They are magical and
shouldn't be (and way too phpdoc specific). My proposal was to make them
docbook generic (and probably porting them to one of the new xml extensions
of PHP 5).
BTW, we haven't received any livedocs proposal yet.
