Rohan, there was a regression in Pig 7 that made the counters not work, I fixed that in Pig 8 (there are now explicit methods Pig provides for using counters, instead of the hacky things PigCounterHelper was doing in elephant-bird). Did you do anything with the counters when migrating to 0.7?
