Either way I would highly encourage you to get away from 1.3.x and move to 1.4.x or 1.5.x. Installing it in a custom prefix should work, yet I've not tried it personally.
I'll be ok with dropping the version requirement but I'd rather do that as Dylan's latest patch hits the ML/master. -Emil P.S.
