One of those changes was not the proper fix, so i also cherry-picked the
follow ups. There were also a couple of other bugfixes which i
backported just now. I guess there is other candidates, but I am not so sure.
Maybe this one?

Compatibility with newer freetypes
The testsuite also completes without errors on my linux 32 and 64 bit.
