It depends which PalmOS you have.
If you have 3.3, go to Prefs|Connections and make sure that the Direct
Serial connection is set for Serial to PC. Then use Direct Serial in your
UNIX network script.
If you have 3.0, you can use the special phone number 00, which is used
for null modem connections. It skips over all of the modem detection and
dialing phase.
I haven't used any others versions of the OS, so I can't comment on those.
