Another option for now, if you're willing to throw a little money at it,
is the Sony Clie serial cradle.  I'm quite successfully using the serial
cradle designed for the Clie S300 to hotsync my Clie N710C at work.

On a vaguely related theme, has anyone looked into adding support into
pilot-xfer for PalmOS4's ability to hotsync things directly into the VFS
filesystems on external storage cards?  (Sony likely won't be releasing
an OS4 update for the 710C for a few months, but I'm thinking ahead.)
