If the ultimate goal is to measure the diameter of pinholes, I'd suggest you buy a microscope with a measuring reticle. Something like this, for instance: http://www.edmundscientific.com/Products/DisplayProduct.cfm?productid=1356 measuring the needles or pins' diameters used to make the pinholes may give you a good indication but if you going to measure "it" why not measure the actual hole. You could also use your flatbed scanner, here is a small article I wrote about how to do that: http://members.home.com/penate/diameter.htm Try it, it may give you all the precision you need.
