If the ultimate goal is to measure the diameter of pinholes, I'd suggest you
buy a microscope with a measuring reticle.  Something like this, for
instance:

measuring the needles or pins' diameters used to make the pinholes may give
you a good indication but if you going to measure "it" why not measure the
actual hole.

You could also use your flatbed scanner,  here is a small article I wrote
about how to do that:

precision you need.
