Nope, there's also a third way: https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer-developers/+archive/ppa --Ben P.S. Just so you know, "compiling" pitivi is actually extremely easy. It's written in python, so there's actually nothing to compile. You can just check out the latest version from git or download a tarball, run an easy "make" command, and be ready to run. Of course, you'll still need up-to-date versions of libraries, so you might as well just use the PPA.
