Dear Lynnzee1621, Hypophysis: [Gr., an undergrowth] 1. An undergrowth. 2. The
pituitary gland. An endocrine gland lying in the sella turcica of the sphenoid
bone. It consists of two portions, the adenohypophysis (anterior [front] lobe)
and the neurohypophysis(posterior [back] lobe), which are attached to the
hypothalmus of the brain by the infundibulum. Basically, this definition tells
you that it is an undergrowth located around the pituitary gland and its
location within the brain. hypophysitis: [Greek, hypo=under, beneath, below,
+ physis= growth, + itis= inflamation] An inflamation of the pituitary body.
Basically, this definition... by the ending root word "itis" [itis
=inflamation... which means inflamation and also falls under a condition]
Inflamation is a condition of the pituitary body itself. panhypopituitaryism
: [hypo=under, + Latin, pituita, mucus + Greek, ismos or "ism" the ending
root... is telling you this is a condition] panhypopituitary-ism means...
Defective or absent function of the entire pituitary gland. So basically, this
means it is a defective or non-functioning condtion of the entire pituitary
gland. (hypo= low as well... and in this case means that there may be defective
or low output of hormones from the pitiutary gland.) So sometimes the pituitary
gland is sporatically working and sometimes in some cases it ceases to function
completely. When the pituitary gland stops producing some or all that is when
it is necessary to replace those hormones and that is why it is so very
important to monitor your hormones and such. Flucuating harmones also effect
health and well being. When things are all "out-of-whack" no wonder we feel so
crappy, tired, moody, sick and frustrated with everything sometimes... RE:
growth hormone replacement... some doctors feel there is not enough evidence or
research to prove how beneficial growth hormone replacement is for the
recipient/patient. And another problem is that not all insurances will cover it
and if they do you have to fight to get them to cover it. Sorry, the
definitions are so dictionary like... I don't have a lot of time this morning
but wanted to respond to your post and help you understand the definition of
the terms. I hope it was helpful. Lynzee, I hope you find comfort and
encouragement and know that you are not alone in struggling with the variety of
problems that a pituitary tumor and or thyroid tumors can cause. It is
frustrating and there is still yet so much to be learned about the effects and
treatments for the various problems caused by pit. tumors and thyroid issues
too. Hang in there my friend, and learn as much as you can... knowledge is
power. Knowledge about the variety of problems also helps to alleviate some of
the confusion & stress... and hopefully knowing there are others out here who
suffer same or similiar symptoms that you spoke of will also help you to know
that others here can and do relate to these kinds of problems. Gentle hugs,
Penny
