I wondered abut one thing in the news story: "Novak has been a columnist for
the Chicago Sun-Times for decades. His assistant, Kathleen Connolly, told the
newspaper that doctors had not yet done a biopsy to determine if the tumor was
malignant.
"She said Novak was alert and talking in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Novak’s office refused further comment to The Associated Press, other than to
confirm the comments on the newspaper Web site."
Is a biopsy often done nowadays? I went to the clinic with my MRI results,
having trimmed off my hair. I figured that I'd have a biopsy, maybe followed by
radiation or chemo to treat the massive macro prolactinoma. Instead, the blood
lab revealed the astronomical lactin level, and no biopsy was needed.
That's the typical procedure nowadays, having a bit of surgery to take a sample
of tumor material, or using easier methods instead?
"Novak was alert." WHAT?! Why would he Is the public so ignorant of brain
tumors that they think we're not alert, 98 percent of the time?! Well, maybe
95.... Or 90. Oh, now I see: the article says he "fell ill" over the weekend,
meaning just about anything. (Guess I wasn't alert while I was reading.)
Did anyone else have their tumor discovered in such a dramatic way, with a
homeless person spread all over the windshield of your black Corvette? My tumor
came to light because an eye doctor, dealing with my worsening double vision.
Maybe I should split this discussion off into a new thread....
Willard
