Sorry it took so long to follow up on this. I didn't see the attachments, but I tried to reproduce this myself in Safari on Windows. In Safari 4, same OS/JVM version, I couldn't reproduce the problem. Any chance you could try upgrading to Safari 4 and see if it still happens?
