We're certainly facing some of these problems already: I'm fixing a
related bug in the driver action-- it's running for zone images,
but it should not be; for now, that looks like a simple and cheap
test in the driver action code itself: if it's a zone, return.
I had a conversation with Bart yesterday about just this issue; we
didn't really come to any strong agreement about how best to tackle
this.
I think we need to get the May release out the door, and back up to
some deeper design discussions, before we are fully ready to answer
this question. Since you are located in the Bay Area, perhaps you
can come up to Menlo Park when we get to those discussions.
