Well, I tried the command line and got this output:

 pfexec pkg image-update
DOWNLOAD                                    PKGS       FILES     XFER (MB)
Completed                                644/644 42033/42033 699.16/699.16

pkg: attempt to mount opensolaris-6 failed.
pkg: image-update cannot be done on live image


So, it seems to be a bug, unless it's a permissions problem.
