The change seems right, though I'd ask that you open a bug to add this
change back and make it dependent on bug 5750 as I see no harm
(long-term) of adding back this change when the next image format
revision occurs (which will be very soon) as that will be a definite
compatibility boundary.
I'll leave this to Danek or sch (who originally asked for the change) to
comment...
