An image property is likely more suitable than environment variables so
that we could pick defaults internally based os platform.
I agree. An image property is preferable to an environment variable.
Though, I'd rather have the platform define where it wants these things
if /usr/share/pkg isn't acceptable.
That's an interesting point. Maybe we should have a special platform
defaults file that we deliver with pkg(5) so that each platform could
easily customise them?
