Sergey:

If you check http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev, the current build available is osol 118. Since your machine is running osol 120, there is nothing to update. FYI, since you are inside SUN, you can use http://ipkg.sfbay/dev as an alternative to http://pkg.opensolaris.org to save bandwidth.

However, I am not sure whether IPS will support pkg image-update with BFU though.

All,

I work in Sun compiler's product quality team, and one of my
tasks is to build latest OpenSolaris with latest Sun Studio
C compiler. I also need to perform some kind of sanity
testing with newly built OpenSolaris archive.

Recently I built Solaris snv_120 sources on my UltraSparc
machine and obtained 2 archives: one of them built with
regular Sun Studio C compiler which is currently used
in Solaris organization, and another binary one was built
with new C compiler.

Both builds were ok, and I also have two other similar
UltraSparc machines where I believe I successfully BFUed
those two archives. At least both machines were successfully
rebooted afterwards.

# uname -a
SunOS vulcan-241 5.11 bld_onnv_120_mars_patch sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240

# uname -a
SunOS sqa36 5.11 bld_onnv_120_aten sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240

Then I did the following similar actions on both machines:

rlogin uadmin
password: ....
pkg set-authority -O http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev opensolaris.org
pkg image-update

For some reason 'pkg image-update' failed on both machines.
I'm not an expert in packaging, neither in Solaris kernel.
My job is to test compilers, so I'd appreciate any advice to
overcome those failures.

The 1-st machine produced the following error messages:

The 2-nd machine produced the following error messages:
