I've just putback a wad with the dev-guide changes I've been working on.
For your convenience, there's a webrev of the changes at:

I've added XXX sections to the guide where I think we need more work,
and I'm going to work on those unless anyone else feels like taking
ownership of any given section.
In the meantime, we're running short on time for getting the guide
reviewed and the final changes written - getting started now on the
review would be great.
