Yep. The l[0] I can't do anything about, that's the first item of a
list. I'll see what named tuples offer here as well.
Actually, there isn't much I can do here because I want to keep
group_by_variant_combinations agnostic about what it's grouping. That
basically means that the [2] is here to stay.
And actually, the changes for adding the named tuple in at 846 were
tiny, so while I'm happy to post another webrev, unless someone asks for
one, I plan to putback once the docstring for
group_by_variant_combinations is resolved.
