Hello, in one our project we discuss performance impact of split ~500 files to ~2000 smaller files + ~500 symlinks (total file size is always the same). All the files are in one package, and the files will have from 1 to many facets (~3 in average).
We expect it slows down the installing new actions phase of the package and also update index phase in future (continually).
