For that, I have found wingide to be, by far, the best ide, especially coming from windows. The academic version of the professional edition was $100, but it has an invaluable autocomplete and source assistant which pops up the definition and docstring of every command you type. in my opinion, it runs better than the assistants in other editors like komodo, and it's certainly invaluable - and i never figured out vim or emacs ;)
