I'm still a bit clueless -- is there anybody here with some suse
experience?

Who says this? What is the command you ran to get this output? Are you
trying to install from source? from RPM? Which version are you trying to
install?

As has be said before, PyMVPA should work fine with 2.6. We definitely
need more information to be able to help you.
