We never tried VS (we don't have any). We usually build installers with
mingw. I think Yarik already built one, maybe that would be useful for
you.

Thanks Michael,
I tried the free MSVC2008 (from http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/8/e/e8eeb394-7f42-4963-a2d8-29559b738298/VS2008ExpressWithSP1ENUX1504728.iso) that Py27 is built with, since I know pyInline and boost work well with it. I did run into issues with msvc 6 building DLLs before, where the compiler takes issue with certain declares or other syntax.

I emailed Christophe Gohike who maintains a win build bot who only had MVPA .4 in his collection, but now has 2.0 http://www.lfd.uci.edu/~gohlke/pythonlibs/#pymvpa which I installed and will try today. He replied "I remember mvpa needs some minor code changes to compile and did not pass some tests".

I'll try mingw later if there are issues with his, as ming is fairly easy install.
