You should always use uscan to download new upstream releases. As documented in the team policy: https://debian-gis-team.pages.debian.net/policy/packaging.html#git-new-upstream The get-orig-source script should only be used when there is no new upstream release, but a newer git snapshot should be used to update the upstream sources.
