I am much clearer about this now. This bug is clearly a duplicate of
#672207.
That said I think we could have instead of changing
" language = /usr/share/mysql/english"
to
"lc-messages-dir = /usr/share/mysql"
changed it to
"
loose-lc-messages-dir = /usr/share/mysql/
# This option is deprecated and will be removed in a later version
language = /usr/share/mysql/english
"
I'm not sure how this is going to work. loose-lc-messages-dir is still
going to be unrecognized by any 5.1 based mysqld. Unless this is some
undocumented field that I am not aware of.
