Package: ktorrent
Version: 4.3.1-4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
ktorrent depends on kde-runtime for no reason.

I satisfied the dependency with equivs and ktorrent is working fine.

This means that the dependency should be removed as it violates Debian policy,
and it might be moved to Suggests or Recommends, if it makes sense to do so.

I suspect that also depending on phonon might not be necessary, but I haven't
tried, since I had it installed for other reasons.

Best

Hi,

any KDE 4 applications depends on kde-runtime, not just ktorrent.
At the beginning of the KDE 4 development, upstream defined
kde(base)-runtime as the proper runtime counterpart for kdelibs,
on which any KDE 4 application can rely as installed all the time.
This is what was implemented in the Debian packaging as a result,
and thus is added to all the KDE 4 applications.

The phonon plugin is used to ensure a Phonon backend is installed,
and the dependency is added in ktorrent as there is a mediaplayer
plugin which uses Phonon.

This bug is thus not valid, and will be closed.

Thank you for your report anyway,
