* What led up to the situation?
VLC segfaults when I try to open some specifivc mkv files.
Not all mkv files pose problem (for examples the test files in
http://www.auby.no/files/video_tests/ play OK) and the problematic files are
read correctly with other players such as mplayer.
I can provide a sample of the related files if needed.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I tried to open the file from the command line :
vlc Battlestar_Galactica_-_S01E01.mkv
and it immediately segfaults.
I can also launch vlc with the default interface and try to open the file. It
segfaults too.
I tried to delete .config/vlc and .cache/vlc, it did not help.
* What was the outcome of this action?
